LA Trip: Day One
Technically it's day two, but since day one was just the drive down, there really isn't much to write about except for the random Roma tomato carnage I saw on the highway. Seems some ambitious Roma tomatoes tried to escape from the trucks carrying them whenever the situation seemed appropriate (bumps on the road), but wound up getting flattened by the vehicles behind the trucks. Poor, tragic Roma death.
Anyhow, I went and visited a friend of mine who lives here in LA. We talked for a bit and then went to Denny's for lunch. We talked a bit about what she's been up to with her trying to getwork doing storyboard, illustrations and what-not. We discussed my documentary and what I've done with it and the problems I've been having.
Oddly enough, when we were getting up to leave, the two guys in the booth next to us were as well. One guy said he overheard us discussing my documentary and wanted to know if I had a business card and a MySpace page. I told him I did and gave him my card and wrote the address to my MySpace page on the back. He told his name was Belz and that he ran a club called 'The Basement' that had a large goth & fetish clientele. He would give some of them my info and see if they were interested in participating in my documentary. :thumbs up:
Later, I attended a cold reading workshop with an organization called Actorsite. They also use this workshop to gauge your level of skill and determine if it is okay for you to attend any of the workshops that they conduct with casting directors and agents. Alas, the guy told me that he could tell I've been out of practice and wasn't really up to snuff, yet, for attending the workshops they hold. But, said if I find an acting class that I can attend regularly, my skill level should get back up to where it needs to be. He had a point, I am a bit rusty, but I also feel that I did do somewhat better that some of the ones he let into the workshops. :thumbs down:
I went back to my friends apartment and we discussed what it is we want to do tomorrow, and I think we decided on hitting the Santa Monica pier.
I want to go the Universal Studios Halloween Horror Night on the 20th, but my friend can't afford the ticket and I can only really afford to pay for myself. It would be no fun to go alone.
So far, that is my trip. More to come and, hopefully, photos.
