Kurasawa and the Kennedy Center itself were awesome, but goddamn, the British Foreign Office was right. This place is a tropical post.

The book in question was The Folly of Empire: What George W. Bush Could Learn from Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, and it played to a packed house. I suspect the author really knows his stuff, but I think the emphasis was lacking in vision. I agree that the Vietnam and Phillipine wars should have taught us the dangers of these liberations. But I...

Details of today's book talk to come.

It's starting to feel like the Hunams need freeing again. Look for ship's log entries here, come September. Or maybe October. Next month is already looking pretty full.

Didn't get moving in time to make Seven Samurai, so I went and got a dose of Epcot instead. Not actually owned by Disney, the International Spy Museum is probably best enjoyed by young children, people with money to burn, people who are not comfortable with their level of English proficiency, people for whom a book such as The Sword and the Shield: The Mitrokhin...

The National Gallery of Art is big. Even with the Dutch masters section closed for renovations, it took me most of their hours of openness to see it. And I don't think I saw all of the smaller, lower level either, because by the time I made it over there, my orienteering skills were fried. Plus, the doors had no labels down there, unlike the...

Because the movie scheduling people aren't 100% accurate, I saw the movie I mentioned in my last journal again. It was okay, but some of the jokes have surprise punchlines, so they aren't that funny the second time around. The tap dance number at the end has me convinced that at least a few other people understand what music was meant to be.

In other...

Indeed. I have always said that my goal in life, was when I wrote my story, that the Barnes and Noble geek would not know where to stock it. Fiction, romance, true crime, fantasy, travel...I want to fit into every section. wink

We have no true adventurers any more.

This past weekend was pretty good. While not exactly like the synopsis made it sound, Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold was pretty good. The sight gag that was also a pun was nicely done. Hope the recent remake makes its way here soon.

What a good soaking rain that was! Even if I did get caught in it, it was worth it.

In other news, Bangkog 8 is proving to be worthy of the recommendation Hiasen gave it. smile

Good call. I could use some tropical. Though I suspect it will have to wait until I get the heck out of dodge. Not soon enough in my books.

Indeed, I do think I set a land speed record, at least for a parka weasel. I love that kind of stuff, it reminds me that I have been allowing myself to grow old.
