1 The bank machine ate my card yesterday. It was Saturday, so the bank was closed. A student of mine helped me out - he phoned the bank and some security guy came around and retrieved my card. While we waited, we were too dopey to think of warning other people about the evils of the leftmost machine, so another guy lost his card while we stood outside the bank. Mian hamnida. But the security guy gave me my card and I got my $$$. I'm all smiles.
2 A social life is difficult in Daegu - I get up at 5 in the morning six days a week, and teach until 10 at night three nights a week. During the day, I like to write - in fact, having my afternoons free is half the reason why I decided to be an ESL teacher (insane amounts of $$$ is another). A friend of mine teaching in Seoul might move back to Daegu, and she used to let me score (as you can see, I'm classy) when we were both teaching in the city. Potentially groovy.
3 Tonight, I'm having a Korean friend over. She speaks English well, and just returned to Korea after living in Vancouver for a year. I've been downloading "CHUD" all week, and it finally finished last night. So it's movie night - "CHUD" and "They Live". "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass . . . and I'm all out of bubblegum." Should be fun. I haven't seen either movie in at least 10 years. Tomato Torrent, I thank you.
4 I had more bank troubles earlier in the week. I tried to send money home (I have student loans to pay), but the woman I spoke to said that the bank doesn't send money to Canada. I thought that was crazy, but it was difficult communicating to her. I spoke to a couple teachers from Canada that use the same bank - they send money home every month. I'll go back tomorrow.
5 I'm listening to Jeffrey Combs reading "Herbert West - Re-Animator" this afternoon, in order to put me in the mood for groovy horror after dinner. Really good stuff.
My Favourite Horror Movies
Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead
Eraserhead
Psycho
Suspiria
Lots of Universal Horror (Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein are the best)
I'll post again next week. Kyeseyo.
