The world's most expensive truffle, sold for 28,000 to a syndicate said to include the actress Gwyneth Paltrow has rotted away in a fridge.
Unearthed last month from the hills of Tuscany and sold to the Knightsbridge restaurant Zafferano by telephone auction, the huge fungus, weighing almost 2lb, was put on display for a week then placed in a safe in the restaurant's fridge. The chef then went away and took the key. When we got it back it was too late and the delicacy had to be declared inedible.
Oh dear. What a plonker!! And bloody hell some people really do wipe with dollar bills dont they!!
