I've been thinking about something my drum teacher told me on Thursday. I was frustrated with my progress so i asked him if it took him a long time to be able to play the drums well or if it just came naturally. He said that nothing had ever come naturally to him. He was good at most things, but never great at anything. I could really relate. It was reassuring and inspiring because i am exactly the same. I have never excelled at anything, no matter how hard i try.
We discussed that we thought those people who have it easy, and are able to accomplish things with minimal to no effort become complacent, are more likely to lose interest, and take their gifts for granted. I guess this goes for anything in life, not just drumming. Someone who works hard, and really focuses to achieve something will have a far greater feeling of accomplishment than someone who has never really had to try. AMIRITE
