I spoke with somone at the Oregon DMV today. There are few things I love more than a friendly DMV person. And I've had a lot of experience talking with them. Mainly becuase of this fucked up thing that happened a few yeas ago.
Two years ago, when I was living in Newport, RI, I had some free time and booked last second tickets to San Fran. I was proud of myself becuase I got a great price on them. The only catch was I had to fly out of LaGuardia. Not a big deal.
I was even more proud of myself for finding the economy lot, which is $15 a day less than regular parking, even though it's right next to the terminals. Sweet.
I park my car in literally the farthest spot from the entrance. No mistaking this.
I go to San Fran, have a great time.
I arive home at 11:00 PM, only to find my car is gone. Totally dissapeared.
I'm hoping it's been stolen, becuase then I'll get insurance money. But if the cops have it, it's gonna cost me big time.
Surpise, surprise. Turns out the cops continually patrol the lots to see if anyone has left a stolen car. And while my car was not stolen, it did have an expired registration.
Oops and Fuck.
This is where things go downhill fast.
After spending the night with friends in the city, I return to LaGuardia. I meet with whoever's in charge and they tell me I can't get drive my car out of there unless I have a new registration. Fair enough, but can I at least get the car towed to another location so I don't have to pay the exorbitant $25 a day impound fee?
Nope, I have to have to show them the title to get the car released. And that sure as fuck isn't going to happen becuase the title is back in Portland and, I swear to you, my parents are in fucking MONGOLIA! It was some help-the-world sort of thing. I didn't bother explaining that to the Port Authority guys. Mongolia could be the next planet past Mars for all they care.
So I have no choice to leave my wheels behind. Motherfucker! You know how hard it is to sleep when you're being charged $25 a day to have your car sit in a lot where you can never get to it? Pretty fucking hard I can tell you.
Eventually, I get these cops to agree to release my car as long as I can present proof of insurance and ID. They'll keep the plates so it can't be driven.
So I go BACK to fucking LaGuardia MANY TIMES becuase Officer Incarnacion (no joke) is on a goddamn vacation! Finally, they say I can have my car. But how will I get it out, and where will I put it?
Stay tuned and read how things get even more fucked up.

On a side note, I'd like to say my dad was a marine and it makes me very sad to read about all these people dying in Iraq. My father was lucky enough never to see combat. Some people are not as fortunate.
