Yesterday was a very sad day. Those of you who know me know that I'm a pretty big Michael Jackson fan. It all began when I was around two years old, maybe a little younger. I didn't have the verbal skills to say Michael Jackson, but I could say "Beat it beat it!" which is what I excitedly exclaimed every time I heard one of his songs as I began to dance. As I got a little older, every time we went to the video store I insisted we rent The Making of Thriller, until eventually we recorded it off of TV or something. For a while my sister counted how many times we watched it, but she gave up around 70. Needless to say, he was my childhood idol.
When I was around 18 I regained that enthusiasm that had lain dormant for those years when you're too cool for everything, to such an extent that liking Michael Jackson inadvertently became my "thing". A friend and I were going to make our own version of Thriller until we had a falling out. When I was 19 and got a fake ID and started going to bars, I sang Michael Jackson karaoke. I still do; "The Way You Make Me Feel" is one of my staples. Today as I was driving I got some funny looks as I rocked the fuck out to some MJ.
People can and do say a lot of negative things about him. I have always refused to believe anything that was not proven. But regardless of what people say, no one can deny that he was an amazingly talented artist, and an icon of such a massive scale that there are no other musicians in our lifetime who are really comparable. And no one can deny that he will be genuinely missed by many of us.

So true. It's amazing. I haven't even had time to be sad. I mean, I do believe it's a sin that he should die, but it makes me just excited to celebrate how happy he always made me. I don't know why I feel this way.

"Please do not despair, because Michael will continue to live on in each and every one of you," family patriarch Joseph Jackson said in a statement to People magazine obtained by CNN.
