"Strange and Most Likely Crappy Short Story Week" continues with story number two...

Cartoons play in the background as the children eat their sugar-based cereal. The cartoons, try as best they can to make getting shot in the face entertaining, are ignored by the children and the surrounding adults. The adults are silent, waiting for the children to speak up. But the children play the game with equal skill, refusing to divulge their tiny secrets.

One man in a blue hat whispers to another man in a bluer hat, Lets just promise them Christmas presents. Theyll tell us what we want to know and its a sure-fire thing theyll forget about us by Christmas.

The man in the bluer hat told the man in the lesser blue hat, That wont work. These kids still believe in Santa Claus.

So the man in the less blue hat suggested to the man in the bluer hat, So lets bring Santa down here, beat him up in front of the kids, and then have a gunfight with any elves that show up to rescue him. Kids love a good gunfight. If were lucky, the reindeerll show up and that always ends in a car chase. He wasnt joking, either.

So everyone just stood around for a while. The postman arrived six hours later, at the regular time. No one wanted to talk, so they gave him a letter from grandma and sent him on his way.

One child began missing the mailman after only half an hour. He began crying. The adults were glad one of the children was at least making noise, so they did nothing to stop him.

He cried until bedtime.
