I often wonder about what's going to happen if the republicans manage to keep a majority and win the next presidency. Never mind how depressing that would be and not to speculate about what kind of Christian neo-fascist policies they might put in place but I wonder about what they're going to do about the deficit. It's like they're playing chicken and betting that they wont keep the majority. Once the Dem's regain the upper hand and have no choice but to return taxes to pre-bush levels, they'll say "Tax and spend liberals!". There's no way that the republicans can fix the deficit themselves because there's nothing left for them to cut aside from their own programs. Can't touch the Medicare drug benefit because that's W's idea. Can't cut the military because we've got this little war going on. And lord knows that suggesting raising taxes on the wealthy is a cardinal sin and that Jesus will damn you to hell. WTF? How in the world are they going to get out of this?
