I've been taged - here's my 20 things most people didn't know about me deal.
1. I was straight edge in High school. However due to the fact that I never slept and was painfully shy, my eyes were constantly half open and I talked even slower than I do now. This lead ever one to believe I was a terrible dope fiend. Most of my friends were though. My soccer coach even sat me down and tried to have a talk to me about my supposed drung problem. Let me tell you that guy was a hypocrite. Everybody knew he was burnin. I never tried anything till about a year out of high school and it was out out sheer boredom.
2. I have a strong emotional attachment to nuclear power.
3. I was born in Richland, Washington close to the Hanford nuclear reserve. The birth place of nuclear power. The Richland High's football teams name was the bombers. In a national geographic about Washington State they had a picture of them and this guy had a bombers pin with a mushroom cloud on it. Underneath it said "Nuke 'em till they glow".
4. My dad designs the programs that train the inspectors of nuclear power plants. When Chernobyl went up, people gave him a call. He's actually know through out the world in his community of scientists. It's strange, you'd think he'd get paid more.
5. In the 1950's the government release a cloud of radioactive Iodine into the atmosphere somewhere around the Yakima valley - where my parents grew up in Washington. Your thyroid absorbs Iodine. My mom has had bad thyroid problems. I forget what it is about your thyroid that does it but manages your energy level. As a kid she didn't have energy to take me places I wanted to go and never really veered from the scheduled routine. She was just too tired. I blame the government.
6. I like cats.
7. Flynn was conceived the night before my birthday. That morning we woke up and there was snow everywhere. We walked down the street and had breakfast at this Irish pub place in downtown Charlotte. Best morning ever.
8. I'm oblivious. I live in my head. If I'm not actively engaged in conversation or looking for someone I wont notice they're there. One time Dave was standing a few people back in front of me on the Marta. I did not notice he was there till he grabbed my shoulder and was like - "hey!"
9. I am the spitting image of my great grandfather. It's kind of freaky, I look just like him. He was apparently a loan shark and very well to do. He was one of the first people in his part of Texas to have air conditioning.
10. Me and my dad are both dyslexic.
11. I have two older brothers that are adopted. My parents thought they were infertile.
12. I liked to watch the news as a little kid. I was strongly affected by the cold war and movies like red dawn and the day after. I never got to see the day after but I heard enough about it to be really sad. I was probably thinking something like - "what's the point in 4th grade, we're all going to die in a nuclear holocaust."
13. I have two older brothers. The oldest has always been built like an ogre and has forearms like Popeye. Growing up I was no stranger to ass kicking. Funny - come to think of it, I remember at one point in school the biggest kid in my class was punching me in the stomach while his friend was holding my arms back. I thought "is that it?" because whenever my oldest brother punched me in the stomach I'd want to puke. I was a tough kid. I am not nearly that tough anymore.
14. I've had food poisoning three times.
15. from age 13 - 16 I was a habitual thief. I once walked out of a store with a super Nintendo.
16. I had a flat top from from ages 11-16. It was not a good look for me.
17. I have a great fondness for large volumous empty buildings.
18. I need a beer.
19. I could sure use a nap.
20. I'm going to strangle the next person that walks into my office and asks me to take care of something "right quick"
