I've been really into the new Do Make Say Think album. The band keeps making changes in their sound, but I still enjoy You, You Are A History In Rust. I don't think it is as good as Winter Hymn, Country Hymn, Secret Hymn. It is still a fine album. I feel they are more concerned with the overall development and refinement of their sound and beautiful sound for the sake of beautiful sound. They tried singing on a couple of songs and I was intially opposed to the idea (their previous four albums were all instrumental), it does work.

I'm also thinking about how records get reviewed. What could actually be an amazing album might not register on the first listen and therefore it will earn a bad review. Another factor that I've noticed is that it takes time to appreciate an album. I've got CDs that it took a couple years before I decided to listen to them again and then they seemed much better than when I first got them. And there are other CDs that I acknowledge as good, but never listen to. It always kind of bothers me the indie rock kids that make really long best of the year lists. There isn't enough time to take in that much new music over the course of the year. On the other hand a lot of these type of kids are in college with access to free new albums and do have the time. I have a lot of time at work to listen to music and I max out on about ten new CDs over a month. Any more than that and I don't feel I've spent enough time with the albums that need multiple listens. However, if I buy a couple of crappy ones, I do get pissed off. It's something to think about.

I gotta go somewhere on Saturday for high school basketball playoffs. I'm not driving so I don't really care. Then there is supposed to be a house party with noise and hardcore bands that I want to check out. We'll see what happens.

ok. Well it's sunny here today, to bad I'm to sick to be outside and enjoy it. I take my share of it by sitting by the window instead.
