Bush Suffers a Trifecta of Defeat in Off-Year Election

Something to momentarily celebrate? As a matter of fact, yes.

Bush got his trifecta, yesterday, but it wasn't what he wished for.

In the 2005 off-year election, the Democrats won governorships in Virginia and New Jersey. And, to put the icing on the cake, all of Arnold's (the Gropinator's) initiatives (which cost cash-strapped California millions of extra dollars to vote on) failed!

You can bet the already nervous Republicans who are Busheviks out of fear that Tom DeLay or Karl Rove will blow their knee caps off if they stray from the Politburo (White House) party line are now going to start breaking away out of fear that they will lose their 2006 elections.

Virginia was an especially heavy loss for Bush, who made a last-minute campaign stop to shore up the slash-and-smear candidacy of GOP candidate Kilgore. But the Bush magic is now the Bush tar -- and Kilgore went down big.

It is worthy of note that in St. Paul Minnesota, "Voters punished Mayor Randy Kelly on Tuesday for standing with President Bush a year ago, denying the Democrat a second term in Minnesota's capital city." So even turncoat Dems got swept away in the anti-Republican tide.

And in San Francisco, voters approved a measure to ban handguns and another one making it municipal policy to oppose military recruiting in high schools.

Finally, in an ironic display of divine justice at the polls, "All eight members up for re-election to the Pennsylvania school board that had been sued for introducing the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology class were swept out of office yesterday by a slate of challengers who campaigned against the intelligent design policy." Now, there's something to thank God about.

All in all, a moment to celebrate. It may not be a trend yet, but we'll take the moments as they come.

Definitely a one-champagne bottle day.

And, yes, election reform didn't get approved in Ohio and Texas banned gay marriage (but a marriage between a Republican white male and a steer is still okay, as long as it's not a black steer). But, the Dems won the series on November 8th, no doubt about it.
