Tonight on the #4 bus, Elvis complimented me on my sideburns. I feel like I have fulfilled all of my Portland credentials. No matter where I go in life, I'll always be a Portlander.

Sometimes I think people in this city are a terribly discourteous lot.Sometimes I think people in this city are a terribly discourteous lot. I don't think it use to always be this way. If you've ever tried to sell something on Craigslist, I'm sure you know what I mean. Anonymity breeds assholes.

I think you getting a sideburns compliment would kinda be like Elaine Benes getting a compliment on how she looks in a leotard. It's no surprise to get a compliment- of course your sideburns look great.

I'm not sure about manners vs rudeness in Portland, but Craigslist sure does generate people who are hard to gauge. I.e. the rudeness factor has been low for me, the unpredictability factor has been waaay high.

Dude. People here are super duper mega polite compared to east coaster folk. I came here and nearly lept out of my skin when a stranger first said "hello" to me.
