First off, go see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's unbelievable.

Secondly, here's a little monologue I just wrote that I want to work into a film script or a story at some point. I don't know what kind of story I'll put it in, but I like it so I'm saving it. Tell me what you think. It's supposed to be a voice over sort of thing from a character working in a coffee shop:

These people are the walking dead. You can see it in their eyes. They drag in their half-dead bodies, scrounge up some change and a dollar or two out of their pockets for a cup of coffee, counting out the nickels and pennies until they have just enough for the biggest cup they can get. I bet half of them wont be buying lunch today, but thats not important, a cup of coffee is important. Theyre exhausted, each and every one of them. They were up late either finishing up work for their jobs or else squeezing what little enjoyment they could out of their miserable lives, and now they have to trudge off to work without enough sleep. And they think a cup of coffee is going to be the magical cure that sweeps the sleep out of their eyes. But it doesnt work. They keep drinking and drinking, but the caffeine just doesnt take. You know why? Because they dont understand, its not the hour of the morning or the amount of sleep they got last night thats really making them tired. Sure, thats a part of it, but thats not the main reason they're tired. Theyre tired because they didnt want to get yanked out of bed this morning. In their dreams, they were happy, comfortable, content. In their dreams, they were athletes, astronauts, or whatever else people dreamt of being when they were five years old. But then morning hits with the harsh sound of that buzzer and bam! Reality. They're jerked out of their beautiful dreams and have to face another day of their miserable jobs, their miserable schools and their miserable relationships. And every part of them is just begging to go back to that dream world where they were happy and everything was exactly the way they had always wanted it to be. I dont blame them, Id want to go back to dreaming too. But they dont quite understand that thats why they so desperately want to go back to bed, or else they dont want to admit it to themselves. And so, they drink coffee to try and wake themselves up. But caffeine is a bad way of reconnecting with your dream world. It makes you more aware, it severs your connection with that fantasy you loved so much. So they just want to return to dreamland even more. And so these people, after two or three grande mochiatos or what have you, are completely wired and jumpy, but their bodies are still begging them to go back to bed, and they cant figure out why. And so they just keep buying more and more coffee, until eventually their stomachs explode from caffeine poisoning and they die. Okay, so I made that last part up. But, considering the way some of these people live, itd be a lot more merciful than keeping them alive.

Impressive. This journal post, and your topic on abortion. That took balls, man. My hat is off to you.

I once wanted to write some kind of paper (story, dissertation; I was not sure what) about forming their entire existence around sleep. Sleep being the one time, for some of us, when we are happy, so we do all we can to ensure that we have a comfortable place to sleep and sleep well, which requires us to work, eat, etc.

That kind of existence is not quite a reality for most of us, but there are those whom I wonder about.
