Jeff Franklin Ruined My Life......
I know you grew up watching Jeff's heartwarming, family orientated shows like "Step-By-Step" or "Family Matters"and who could forget the most infamously inaccurate portrayal of real life "Full House". Many of us can still hum the theme song or even sing a few words. Pretty impressive for a show many of us watched in our pre-teens. As a staple of entertainment on Friday night, our young minds were subjected to an endless onslaught on "Family Values" and "Moral Responsibility". There wasn't a problem in the world that couldn't be solved in 30 minutes and they always gave you ample time to think it over due to strategically placed commercial breaks. This was a place were everyone loved you and if you had an argument it was cause of a misunderstanding in-which there was always a "Valuable Life Lesson" to be learned.
Your parents loved these shows becuase of how wholesome they were. Your grandparents thought so too. We religiously watched, learning all there was to know about social acceptance and how people relate to one another. Once we started dating, we knew everything there was to know. Any situation, wether it be conscious or unconscious, we were ready for. We could handle anything. The reason why, no matter what, your friends would always be your friends. Every dispute would be solved quickly once you came to that clarity point and it would always bring you closer together.
Then the real world hit. Our problems drag on for days, sometimes months. Our friends aren't there. The ones we love hurt us and spoke harshly when our back is turned. The lie of Jeff Franklin has us. All that is left for us to do was question everything around us. The motives of others become a source of suspicion. The understanding and acceptance that was promised by this diabolical illusionist is not to be found. Has there ever been such a ruse pulled over the eyes of so many? No wonder we're miserable, lonely, pretentious, overly -affectionate, scheming, lying, co-dependant and too many other character flaws to mention in My(limited amount of )Space. No real connections are made, the ones that emerge are superficial if that.
Had Jeff adaquately prepared us for the life ahead, maybe we'd be in different places presently. Instead he catered to our parents belief that the knowledge to prepare us for the coming world could be gained in 30 minute segments. This will not do. Here we stand, detached from the rest of the world, hoping for something better. Unprepared for the future as the youth of today surpass us. Alcohol and drugs are our banners. Sex is our marriage.
