Things that are Bothering Me - Part 2
2. This is not one of the things that is bothering me that I was planning on writing about, but after last night, I have to. Im going to talk more about dogs, sorry, at least this time it doesnt have anything to do with my mom. Like I said yesterday, the Humane Society has raised its adoption fee to $250. The previous fee was $90. They have signs up saying that the reason for the increase is to ensure that the animals go to good homes. I dont see how money = good homes. Yes, I do understand the need to be able to afford food and vet bills and whatever but money does not equal love. I personally know some rich people that just buy dogs on a whim and the give them away just as easily, never giving a damn about them.
Last night, whilst mid sentence, talking about this very thing to Toast, this point was proven. We were walking Dexter and there was a dog tied out in the front yard of a house we were about to pass. To me, that right there is not good dog parenting. Do you know how many dogs strangle themselves in that very situation? Then the dog runs in our direction. When he gets to the end of his leash (not sure if it was male or female, but Im going to call it him because I cant stand calling the dog it) his collar flashes some red lights and the dog starts yelping. The dog has on a shock collar. This was no small shock, the dog was screaming, obviously in pain. Then a guy comes out, yells at him and starts to yank the dog into the house. Im willing to bet that this guy could afford the $250 to adopt a dog at the Humane Society. Can anyone honestly say that he is providing a good home to that dog? It makes me sick to my stomach.
