Recently, I have had a lot of time to think. It's made me realize that as a society, we don't necessarily work for material items. Instead, we work so that we can be needed.

Now to be needed in this society we have so foolishly created, is to be wanted. The point? People don't go out and by a new mercedes benz because it's what they need. They do it so that in other people's minds, they will be wanted. People will be envious of the car and will want to be near that individual. Please keep in mind, it's not always a car in this metaphor.

We as a society, crave attention. Why is it that sex sells? Because we let it. We let other people dictate what we aspire to be...it's all visual. If you don't get what I mean, open up any magazine your close to and look at the ads. It's always someone portraying how wonderful the product is. Essentially, the ad causes us to want the item. Is it because we want a razor with three blades, or because we want to be recognized under that item's fortay (in this case, sex appeal by having a clean shave...)?

Well, I think that I have gotten enough off my chest about this particular topic. Whether you agree with me or not, you have to admit, in our society you're not needed/wanted unless you have something to offer. Maybe next time we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss someone based on their style, their hygeine or their material possesions. Maybe we should revert back to where we started, judging individuals by who they are...not what they are trying to be.
