Hurricane Leslie
You came whirling into my life
Like some force of nature.
A violent gust of long hair,
And raindrop kisses,
With pale blue eyes, like the sky.
Those eyes so inviting,
Those eyes so safe.
They made me believe the worst had gone.
They made me believe in something better.
But the eyes past over me,
And the storm lashed out in silence.
Just a wisp of smoke,
Just a glance at the center of the sun
That is all the storm brought.
You came bearing the fruit.
You begged me to taste it.
And I gorged myself in it.
Satisfied my lusts for it.
Remembering its taste, like blood,
Remembering how we tested God.
Now I must repent for,
The storm is over; heaven's anger is spent,
And there is nothing left but the debris to clean up.
