An artist needs feedback. This isn't something new I've just recently determined, but it will often be the push that keeps the creative endovors moving. I don't know if this sounds overly sexist or not, but I think most of the women on this site are walking pieces of art, they are both artist and art, thus hearing feedback like "you are gorgeous" or my simple "you rock" aren't just hoots from iStrangers, but feedback from some sort of audience.

But what if there is no feedback? What if you put it all out there and no one says a thing? What if you strip down, tearing away all these clothes, covers, and such and say 'here I am' and no one says a word? No one parts a glance, shares note, or even reacts. Perhaps they didn't see or hear, perhaps they have nothing to say, they don't care... or worse yet.... they don't exist.

No one saw you, no one heard you when you shouted out your soul, you bared your nakedness to an empty room, a cold dark and dank basement that is empty. There isn't apathy, there isn't appriciation, disgust, there isn't feedback...there is just nothing. Nothing at all.

Of course the phrase 'nothing at all' reminds me of Ned Flanders showing off his snow suit to Homer, saying he feels like he's 'wearing nothing at all'.

"Blissful beautiful euphoria permeates my consciousness, tickling me with the azure and pink candy of joy..." is how things once started. And now I find solace in the idea of the recent Modest Mouse song "Float On" floating on and away... The swimming metaphor is very prevelant in the Endless book of mine. I also like the modest line 'my thoughts are so loud." .. though sometimes I think loud yet shallow thoughts....

I'm losing touch with things... I'm out of touch. I've taken myself out of the loop, out of the game, etc etc etc. I'm waiting for the buzzer to go off, for the other team to hurry up and win so I can get on to the next game. I'm mixing metaphors when I want to be mixing drinks.

So what is an Idea without feedback? What is a story without an audience? What is art without someone to appriciate it? If a tree falls... etc etc.

My favorite part about Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions is his little paragraph on "and so on" and "etc." He draws a little diagram to help the reader. It looks something like:
ETC.
only sloppier, and such.

Feedback is nice to have -- although it isn't always good. and not having feedback, or knowing no one is out there, or if they are they aren't responding -- it sucks. but it's good if their feedback is just gonna suck. so in that case, leave no feedback.

I read all of your stuff, and if I don't respond to it, it just means I don't know what to say. I love your shit -- I love reading it. So write on. But half the time I just don't know what to say. It all makes me think. Maybe b/c I don't understand it. Maybe b/c I can relate to it. Whatever it is, I love reading your shit. And maybe someday I'll actually see you in person for more than 5 seconds & then we can actually talk. And I won't feel like your just "Jam Master Jay"'s roommate...

By the way... do YOU think it should bother me that he asked Amy to live with you guys? It does. And I don't know if I am just being stupid... or if I have reason to let it bother me. Just thought I'd ask you.

So, maybe I'll see you sometime soon. He & I will be on our 4am-noon shift again next week (M-F). So, I will maybe be around at some point. And maybe I'll see you. And Toast. I love Toast. Such a great dog. Ok, this was a super-long comment. So I'm going now. G'night!
