His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's T-shirts
When the swing set hit his head
The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there,
Find the few living things rotting fast
in their sleep, oh the dead
Twenty-seven people, even more
They were boys, with their cars
summer jobs, oh my...

golden brown, texture like sun
lays me down, with my mind she runs
throughout the night, no need to fight
never a frown with golden brown
every time, just like the last
on her ship, tied to her mast
to distant lands, takes both my hands
never a frown with golden brown
golden brown, finer temptress
through the ages she's heading west
from far away,...

I find it amusing that all the people closing Starkey Road tonight are sic,k of working at the coffee shop. The evening began with a quiet, low key, shielded animosity towards working, and slowly degenerated into an open tear of "fuck this" every five minutes. You have to admit, getting paid no more than 7.00 an hour no matter how much time and effort you've put...

You shouldn't delay on applying to grad schools. You don't want to be caught in the "I'll work another semester to save up" mentality. Those are the people who are still talking about finishing college when they are in their 40s and have done nothing with their life. I'm not saying that you will do that but too many smart people don't follow their dreams because they are always waiting for the key time. -dave
Thank you everyone for your comments the last couple of days. They really meant a lot to me. I've been very lucky my entire life, because I've never really lost anyone who was especially close to me. My grandmother wasn't as close to me as my father's parents are, but the whole situation really brought home how much I appreciate my family, especially my parents....

children wake up, and hold your mistake up, before they turn the summer into dust
My grandmother died last night. This morning around 10:00 my mother called to tell me. It's been coming for a while now. She'd been suffering from terrible memory loss, and she was growing weaker and weaker. The last time I saw her was two summers ago when we visited family...

Ugh, I have a food baby. We just ate Outback and I'm incapacitated. I'll have to give birth here in a bit.
I saw March of the Penguins today at the Grandin. It was quite good. Actually a bit more educational than I thought it would be. I thought there would be more of a story that they created using penguin phootage, but it was...

What demands saying regarding The Devil's Rejects? Hmm. How can I put this? Some things were never meant to be made. This is one of them. I am utterly speechless as to how much I dislike this movie, which is sad because I loved House of 1000 Corpses. Our villains return in the sequel and terrorize people. No point, really. They just terrorize...

Party party PARTY! That was the battle cry this weekend. Holy crap, I was wasted. Some friends of mine are moving to Illinois this week, and they had lots of stuff to get rid of. Among this stuff were 27 bottles of wine that they claimed had to be drunk in 24 hours. I did my part Friday night downing a whole bottle of 4-year...

Here's the long promised samurai poem. I wrote it Memorial Day weekend last year. Cool story to go with it: I was the only one in town that weekend, and deciding that the only good thing on TV was the Indy 500 I drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to finish this. While I was up there a couple of things happened. First, and...

As one of my friends has shared with me. It's like going to a job interview and having them say we're not going to give you the job. You're everything we're looking for and more, in fact, you meet every standard we have, and although you will probably do the job better than anyone else, instead, we're going to give the job to someone else less qualified even though he expects more compensation.

Do you have any idea how much I fucking hate Emo? The Ataris are in their mid to late 20's, some married with children, and they still sing about being a depressed, girl-obsessed teenager. One of the new girls at the coffee shop will be a high school junior next Fall and she says all her friends are Emo, and they sit around saying, "God,...

alright, so what the fuck is "emo" anyway?? is it being sad and lonely for no reason, and now there is a name for it?
poet22:
i'm sure there will be a lashback sometime in the next 3 years. the mid 90's were fairly happy until alanis. then they found the depressive market. september 11th had some more uplifting music but emo had already saturated the indie and college market and boomed to highschool and pop culture. emo will only rain supreme until we find something better than goth metal and boy band front men. but the truth is, the 90's gave birth to the "modern male" who isn't afraid of his emotional side. it also gave death to the 80's hair metal testosterone driven male because it's politcally incorrect or something. it's hard to fight that kind of cultural change. the Bad Ass image is a delicate thing these days.
"Def. #2..The projection of one's own feelings or emotional state onto an object or animal."
It would be like balling up some rage or anger or hatred and tossing it at somebody, could be fierce.
I personally would want Spiderman's powers..
