His father was a drinker
And his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's T-shirts
When the swing set hit his head

The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there,
Find the few living things rotting fast
in their sleep, oh the dead
Twenty-seven people, even more
They were boys, with their cars
summer jobs, oh my God
Are you one of them?

He dressed up like a clown for them
With his face paint white and red
And on his best behavior
In a dark room, on the bed, he kissed them all
He'd kill ten thousand people
With the slight of his hand, running far,
running fast to the dead
He took off all their clothes for them
He put a cloth on their lips, quiet hands
quiet kiss on the mouth

And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floorboards
For the secrets I have hid

Had anyone told me last week at this time that I would love a song about John Wayne Gacy, I would have laughed, shivered, cried a little, and laughed again. Now that it's happened, I find that shivering and crying are not necessary. Sufjan Stevens, you can sing anything for me.

Last Fall I had a conversation with a friend about super powers, and if you could have any super power what would it be. It was supposed to tell you something about the person. She said she wanted the power of empathy. I told her that was the stupidest super power anyone could ever ask for. Her boyfriend agreed and said, "Basically it's saying 'He punched her, but she was cheating on him, so she deserved it.'" She was a little shocked, but saw our point. What is it about girls sometimes when they can have super powers? It's like the fifth Planeteer - "the power of heart!" When I was in middle school I made up a superhero who was basically an X-Man, and he had the power to harness the essence of the universe and use it to create powers like energy projection, flight, shields, and physical strength. The catch was that he attracted the attention of the likes of Galactus and the Watcher, and lots of conflicts ensued. That's the power I'd want, and with all the catches involved. You can't have super powers without consequences.
fyrestarter:
empathy could actually be a pretty cool super power if you look at the definition(s) of the word...
"Def. #2..The projection of one's own feelings or emotional state onto an object or animal."
It would be like balling up some rage or anger or hatred and tossing it at somebody, could be fierce.
I personally would want Spiderman's powers.. wink .
