Party party PARTY! That was the battle cry this weekend. Holy crap, I was wasted. Some friends of mine are moving to Illinois this week, and they had lots of stuff to get rid of. Among this stuff were 27 bottles of wine that they claimed had to be drunk in 24 hours. I did my part Friday night downing a whole bottle of 4-year old German Cabernet Franc while we watched Deep Blue Sea. It wasn't quite wine anymore. The top half was grape water, while the bottom half was alcohol water. It went down easy, though. Saturday was the bulk of partying. We met up at their place and hung out at the pool, drinking lots of wine and floating about. Around 6 we decided to take a break and get dinner at the Cici's at Towers. This was my first real experience with public intoxication. The host of the party claims he doesn't remember anything from Cici's, but I remember he kept showing his food to his wife and making jokes, and whatever he said put me in a fit of laughter for a good five minutes or so until I realized that if I didn't stop laughing I was going to puke. After that I put the party party partying into an easier gear and began drinking more water than wine. I must say it was quite the weekend for party party party. I worked both Saturday morning and Sunday morning, and I was only really hungover Saturday. I find it amusing that every waking moment in which I wasn't working I was either en route to party party party or engaging in party party party. I'm going to miss those guys. They're the ones who hosted the 24 hour movie day back in January. Everyone is already invited to their first in Illinois, but it's going to be a hell of a drive out there.
On another subject completely, a good friend of mine from college proposed to his girlfriend Saturday and she said yes. I'm so happy for him, although it seems like everyone is getting married except for me.
CD's bought since May:
Stars, 'Set Yourself On Fire'
Supergrass, 'Supergrass'
Big Black, 'Songs About Fucking'
Belle and Sebastian, 'This Is Just A Modern Rock Song'
Pizzicato 5, 'Made In USA'
Muse, 'Absolution'
Spoon, 'Gimme Fiction'
Gorillaz, 'Demon Days'
White Stripes, 'Get Behind Me Satan'
Death From Above 1979, 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine'
!!!, 'Louden Up Now'
Mates of State, 'Team Boo'
Mates of State, 'All Day'
So am I the only person on the face of the planet unimpressed with the new Gorillaz? 'Feel Good Inc' is a really fun song, but I can't into the record. I tried. I tried! Also, am I the only person who thinks that 'Blue Orchid' is about Renee Zelwegger? Think about it.
Current favorite song lyric:
"Tattered fingers
Linger on the warm and foolish
Hardened faces
Graceless
We'll lose the battle"
Stars, 'Ageless Beauty'
That needs to be heard in context with the music, so here's another one by them:
"There's one thing I have to say so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to save"
Stars, 'Your Ex-lover Is Dead'
Damn Stars are awesome.
