I drove out to Barnes & Noble this evening to procure my book for the Lit group's April activity: read a book by an author whose last name begins with the same letter as your own. I bought "The Lonesome Gods," by Louis L'Amour. Westerns aren't what I usually read, but I'll be damned before I read anything else by D.H. Lawrence. I read all of Sons and Lovers waiting for something to happen, and realized at the end that it was a 300 page short story. I gave Lady Chatterly's Lover a shot, too, but I laughed too much at his sexual imagery to enjoy it. Sinclair Lewis doesn't really do anything for me, either. I think I'll like L'Amour. Different is generally better. Generally. While there, however, I did fall into the Barnes & Noble trap. It's sound advice not to wander the store as you're trying to decide which book to buy, because you're going to find something else you want to get. I walked into the World History section and found an awesome book about samurai. I had to get it. Damn you Barnes & Noble and your informative and entertaining books that cost thirty dollars!

I was thinking more along the lines of an event somewhere like someone's apartment or a bowling alley. I may be willing to host an event in Blacksburg so long as it's not real rowdy. -Dave
