Back from Niagra Falls, and Su and I had a really amazing time. The Falls are so...awesome is the only word I can think of to properly describe them. No matter how many haunted houses, souvenir stands and tourist crapfests they put up, nothing can detract from the immense power (literally) and beauty of nature. We did some fun things on the American side too, such as getting completely soaked walking up the side of the Falls...thank god they hand out those thin plastic ponchos for such silliness. Much fun was had...more than I have the time to write here. There are many pictures, and some will make it into one of my pic folders soon.

The night before we took the drive to Niagra, I went to the Curiosa Festival. It seemed as if all of ManRay was there (it probably was) and I saw many friends and aquaintances in attendance. It was wonderful to see so many beautiful goth boys and girls roaming around at an outdoor summer concert! The Cure was - as usual - fantastic, playing many dirgy surprises after getting a small block of hits out of the way. Mr. Smith's voice was in fine form, and it just doesn't get any better than this. Mogwai was wonderful and loud, and filled me with a longing for more swirly and noisy 4AD records. Their luscious textures made me feel all warm. Interpol left me a little cold...I could learn to like them if there was maybe one original bone in their collective body. They looked beautiful, but left me wanting more substance (the phrase "Emperor's New Clothes" kept popping into my head), and wishing that Joy Division hadn't suffered an early demise. Saw a bit of Muse on the 2nd stage...sheesh...do we really need more prog rock metal? Queen was just fine and quite enough, thank you. The big surprise for me was The Rapture, who ripped through their set like they were on fire. They were pretty brilliant, and I wished they had been able to play a longer set. I will have to see them again at some point in the future. You should too.

It was back to work last night, and so nice to see the SG Boston forces out. I got to hear more details about Sid's LA adventure, and she introduced me to Insomnia. I played some Thrill Kill Kult for BuckyKatt666 (who has thankfully stopped confusing me by changing his name surreal !) and got to spend a few moments with Madichon (formerly plaingurl, who will be missed...fortunately I won't have to say goodbye til Friday frown ) the delightfully evil gasmaskboy, the always dapper Quiescence and PopeTom. Hope you all had big stompy fun.

That's it for now, so I'll go away, but not before hurling a kiss in your general direction.

i've never been to Niagara, but i lived about an hour away from Bushkill Falls when i lived in pennsylvania. my teenage-first-love-sweetheart took me on a long hike through the Falls for an anniversary and it was one of the best times we ever had. that area isn't very touristy, but i'm sure the natural beauty of the Falls themselves outshine even the most garish of attractions.

last night was one of the most fun times i've had at the club since i've been going there. i really got lost in a couple of songs that you played and ended up dancing long after i thought i should've been too tired to continue. i had forgotten about the request for "After the Flesh" and i got so genuinely excited when you played it that i just had to run onto the dance floor like the giant ass that i am biggrin . thanks!

i'm gonna have to dip out on you next week though to see The Kings of Nuthin' as they are one of the best bands I've seen around these parts and last time I saw them I danced myself into stupidity and had a wonderful time (also, a certain dancing girl has expressed her interest in joining me as well)... don't fret though, i'll be back soon enough, maybe i'll even pick up a Saturday to make up for it... i'm dying to dance to some punk AND to some 80's...
