What a long and enjoyable weekend! Got to celebrate Valentines Day a little late, but in style wink kiss wink and well worth the wait. Zi planned something extra-special for us, and that's all I'll say. I'm still recovering from that, as well as 24 hours of Sci -Fi Movie Madness! A not-so-brief summary of this generally mind-numbing annual event (I'm referring to the marathon now, naughty & silly people, so you may kindly remove your minds from the gutter):
It was a pretty fun romp this year, with only one notable dud: "Demonlover" (not even remotely sci-fi: a French, impressionist - meaning overly long, introspective and tedious in parts - industrial espionage story about the manga porn world) and one we left and had dinner during: "Have Rocket, Will Travel" (a feature length 3 Stooges outer space fiasco).
some typical fare:
"The Matrix" (seeing it again on the big screen just pissed me off more about 2 & 3)
28 Days Later (with both endings)
the Director's Cut of Alien (yeah, it's a little longer, but did we need more scenes of people complaining about wage discrepancies?)
some fun "classic" things:
"Incubus" ('66, with William Shatner, in Esperanto...not sci-fi, but a fun, surprisingly not tacky story about people on an island also populated with demons and sprits. Great cinematography, too)
"The Amazing Transparent Man" (1960)
"Mutiny In Outer Space" (1965)
"Godzilla vs. Megaguirus" (2000)
some Captain Marvel serial episodes
some rather brilliant surprises, notably "Robot Stories" (indie set of 4 shorts linked by their robot theme...some great stories!)
& truly amazing standouts:
"The Giant Claw" (everything and more that you'd expect from a 1957 Mexican sci-fi B movie thriller, including model planes on extremely visible strings, and a giant stuffed buzzard that terrorizes the town). Astounding!
"The Dish" a contemporary Australian comedy about the people of a small Australian town where the satellite dish that broadcasts the first Moon landing live is located.
"Space Patrol" a very groovy 1965 German TV series (we saw 3 episodes combined into one feature length movie) with intensely mod costumes, stellar Eames-like chrome-filled sets, dance steps that have to be seen to be believed, and a recurring newscaster named Fraulein Krapp. 5 stars!

So, that about wraps up my extended weekend of eye-strain, enjoyment excitement and extreme pleasure. Now, sadly, it's back to the real world (plus, maybe I'll catch up on some much needed and well deserved sleep...maybe), with wishes for big fun to all who read this.

Wow! Now that's a marathon! That's crazy cool! And since Arachnequarius brought it up 3-D photography is SO cool! There was a Lomo model available on-line for a while that I'd drooled over...figured it'd make a worthy start. Thought about it too long & it disappeared...not that I did an in-depth investigation. I got a new 4 megapixel so, can't complain. wink Thanks, as always, for the knod comments! biggrin
