Who's ready for more of my boring amplifier project?

For those of you still reading, here's what I've been up to:

A couple days ago I figured out that I could use an LED bulb for the pilot lamp. It doesn't really look much different with the jewel in place, but it's one less thing I have to worry about replacing later...

Incandescent bulb:

LED:

Then I rewired the output jack and did away with the extension speaker output. I never used it and I think of it as a design flaw. It's handy if you have two 8 Ohm speaker cabinets (8 Ohms plus 8 Ohms equals 4 Ohms), but I have one 4 Ohm speaker cabinet, which is what the output transformer wants to see...

Okay, here comes the good part! Tonight I cut out my circuit board! Woohoo!

Here's the raw stock: a 12" x 12" piece of Garolite G-10 substrate, the same stuff I used for the rectifier board, only this is black:

I cut out a two and a half inch wide section:

Sanded the edges smooth:

Screwed it down to a board and buffed the hell out of it with rubbing compound:

Ahhh, look at it glisten in all it's glorious inky blackness!

Here's where it'll eventually live:

I think I've settled on which circuit to build. An old friend told me about the Laney LH50 (Lionheart 50 watt), which is a two channel amp like this one. One side is like a classic Fender circuit, the other side is like a classic Marshall circuit, and I can build an A/B foot switch so I could go from one sound to the other. My friend told me that he would email the schematic, but I haven't heard back from him yet. I've looked all over the innernut but I haven't found one yet. I might just start copying bits from this layout and that layout and see what I come up with...

It's gonna be so cool!

Okay, you can go read somebody else's interesting journal entry now.
