Fuck off Klein Independent School District officials and bigot parents.you lost!
A small war of sorts has been raging in Houston the past few days involving the Klein school district and a lesbian student named Marla Dukler. Marla Duklers crime you may ask???? To institute a Gay-Straight Alliance club at her school. The school district declined her request stating it, prohibits any club that "promotes, encourages, or condones, directly or indirectly, participation in any conduct by students that is classified as a criminal offense under Texas law, or that poses a risk to their health, safety, or welfare (including, but not limited to, sexual activity by minors)."
In comes the American Civil Liberties Unionher request is accepted.under protest from parents and members of the school board. Many of the parents have grouped together to form the Concerned Parents, a group that will push the district to install separate bathrooms and locker rooms for homosexual students.ummmm ok like his will ever happen.
From this event have arisen many spectacular quotes.
1. "I don't want my son hopping in the shower with (a gay) person," Lokey said. "We wouldn't allow a heterosexual boy and a heterosexual girl to shower together." -This one speaks for itself I believe.
2. "From my perspective, it was very simple: We didn't need any club based on sexuality," Superintendent Jim Surratt told reporters.. Who is this we that he speaks ofcertainly NOT the students of Texas schools.certainly not an age group where gays have a notoriously high rate of suicide..Apparently it is the same we that does feel the need for sailing clubs even though there is nowhere to sail in Houston.Shitif I had an outlet like a gay club when I was in high school maybe I wouldnt have spent years trying to prove I was straight by fucking men I didnt like.
3. School officials dismissed students' complaints about harassment, intimidation and assaults against gay students. Richard Page, school board president, called the GSA founders' accusations "unfounded." Surratt labeled them "fantasy." - ummm okyeah us gayswe often live in a fantasy world where we are discriminated against and chastisedespecially in high school.but we all know that doesnt really happen..really..yeah ok
4. "Until that law is changed, there will be groups entering campuses that people locally do not favor," Surratt said. "Our business is academics. ... Putting on carnivals related to sexual preference is not what the purpose of the school system is." - they were not asking to hold a fucking carnivaljust to be recognizedand yeah, in the 60s the people locally wouldnt have favored an African-American group either but did that make it rght???
