mother of god, dimebag's dead.

i have idolised dimebag darrell since i first heard 'mouth for war' over ten years ago. he was the greatest guitarist the world has ever known, a man who lived and breathed his instrument, and for whom the instrument was an extension of his will, his self. he inspired countless thousands to play guitar. he inspired me to play guitar.

last night - as no doubt you already know - he was murdered while onstage with his new band damageplan. his brother vinnie paul was also onstage, being damageplan's drummer, and my thoughts are with him. nobody, but NOBODY should have to see their kith and kin killed in front of them. my thoughts are with the whole family, and with the families of the others killed in the massacre.

this is a terrible, terrible day for music, for the world. i guess, to me, it must feel like how it felt to my parents when john lennon was killed. i've been in shock all day - vague, unable to concentrate, devastated.

i'm off to dye my beard pink and listen to 'cowboys from hell' over a bottle.

darrell abbott - you are sorely missed.
