what an ace day!
ok, so wednesday started off a bit shaky - literally, i went cold turkey on some pills i take, and was falling about all over the place! but once i dragged my sorry butt into work, i was fine. odd that - i'm still not comfortable with the idea of having a job i enjoy...
i played with esther in bartok in chalk farm last night - my first gig for about a year and a half or so, if not longer. on the way there, i popped into a pub in soho to see a lass i know who works there. evetually found out she was working the bar upstairs at a private function - i managed to somehow help the barman take some drinks upstairs to the function, and walked in to find a room full of baying guys, one crimson groom-to-be, a fat ugly lass doing a striptease, and my friend shaking with laughter in the corner.
hilarity! i walked in just as the stripper was rubbing oil onto the hapless (and painfully embarrassed) groom with her tits. tee hee hee.
so, i was almost late for the gig, heh. wouldn't want to be taken for granted, afer all!
it was a quiet little affair - an acoustic night in a small, intimate little place. some good friends get to run the night thre occasionally, and i've seen them play there maybe a half-dozen times (they were also headlining last night), so it was a very warm, friendly atmosphere, lots of people i know and vaguely familiar faces and such. the gig itself was cracking - we played the songs about as well as we have, i think. there's just 2 of us so far, esther on acoustic and vocals (she has a *lovely* little voice) and me on bass and backing vocals, and in a place like last night it was a perfect setup, the bass holding the rhythm together but letting the vocals and guitar have space to breathe, and all. it went down well with the crowd, too - think they were all quite surprised, hehe, it was (as i say) the first time we've played together live and people didn't know what to expect, i think. so all in all, a great gig!
after us, there was a guy (who i think i've seen before) doing solo acoustic stuff - very nice, and his voice had smatterings of maynard in Perfect Circle's quietest bits. good guitarist, too. and he did covers of 'i will survive', 'never gonna give you up', and another dance one that escapes me at the mo - but did them well, rather than with that knowing-cheeky-ironic wink that so many people butcher covers with.
unfortunately, i only caught the first 2 songs of my mates who were headlining... cause i had to leave... cause i was meeting my friend from earlier (you remember, the one working in the bar, laughing at the stripper!) for a late coffee. something we've done a couple of times now, and i got to say, i like it! just sitting outside of bar italia and watching the freaks and drunks stumbling by, doing their stuff. and talking.
did i mention that i'm head-over-heels, utterly besotted with this girl? no? well, i am, hehe. she's canadian, and lovely beyond the ken of mortal men. tall, beautiful, very intelligent and very witty, and just cracking good to be around. i've known her a while, and i'm pretty sure she knows i've liked her a while. i'm not that subtle about these things - drooling, stammering, the like. well, maybe not *quite* that bad, but you get the picture!
so, we had a lovely chat - and then she mentioned her 'boyfriend', and my heart sank. lke, properly sank, i could feel it rattling on my hips. but she was talking about an ex from a few years ago, it turned out
she's single (YES!), not seeing anyone(YEEEEEEESSS!!!!), and very handily let me know that she wanted me to let her know if i was interested - see, she's clever, like i say! walking her back to her place, i asked if she'd like to go for dinner some time - she gave me a lovely smile, and said she would, a lot!
i said that, given everything we'd talked about before, maybe we could make it a date. and she said...
YES!
ever since i first saw this girl, i've been head-over-heels - literally, i saw her working behind the bar a couple of months ago, and said to my friend 'Wow, she's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen!'. words can't do justice to how ace she is, and you know the funny thing? no matter how much i build her up in my own mind to be this superhuman goddess, the reality always exceeds it!
so, i walked her back to her door, we said goodbye and hugged, and i left it up to her as to when we're gonna go out. but we are, dear reader, we are....
...and life is GOOD!
