In your most insignificant actions, there is an enormous amount of heroism.

Ha! Well, I hung around Cafe Alt quite a bit during school, and I happen to have a good buddy named Lindsay there as well... so, yes, that would have been me.

I'm not sure I recognize you - but then again, that lil fuzzy picture is not much to go on. wink

Oh, and I'm taking Computer Science. I've always found the alt more appealing than the SITE building, though. Have you been there? Fucking McDonald's playhouse. puke

If you see me around, say hallo. smile

Well, here's a first for me: I'm overqualified for the job for which I applied! I'm not happy about it.

I had notion this may happen at the inerview; they informed then that the position was less research and analysis oriented then I had been led to believe. Turns out the position was clerical - something like 1400 files had been misfiled when the department...

New week's begun and I'm very tired. The weekend wasn't all that crazy, but I guess I'm still feeling it's effects.

Still waiting to hear if I got the job with the Modern War Crimes Unit; I'll be peeved if don't, but then again, one shouldn't ever raise their hopes to high on things which one has little control. I gave a good interview and...

Ah, well then we go to school together. smile What program are you doing?

Haha, yes the Ottawa night life is pretty lame. There are some great martini type bars, but they're far too posh (read- expensive) for me. Mostly I stick with nice little pubs or the Dominion. I don't feel the lack of night life much though.. I've been in Ottawa all my life, so I'm used to it. whatever

How are you doing brother! It might be hot here again this week - hopefully.......Did you get the job? The legion hall downtown got shut down due to rules with overcrowding and ancient laws that have to do within all veterans halls in BC - weird.....

I missed my regular entry yesterday; I had to attend a funeral. Two very close friends of mine lost their father quite suddenly - definitely tragic.

Having lost my brother two years ago, it was certainly a day of some reflection.

Therefore, Day 4's thoughts are on death and dying:

"He's dead, Jim"
- Leonard McCoy

"Death hath this also; that it openeth the gate...

Yes, I'm very excited about my upcoming move. Too bad it's still 3 weeks away frown

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. My homage to my favorite Grandmother, who passed on about 8 years ago, and I still miss her, is going to be a small part of a larger tattoo. She loved gardening and had a thing for African violets, so I'm going to have a small Dia de los Muertos style skull in the middle of an African violet flower amidst other flowers in the larger tattoo. I am also going to incorporate her name, but I'm not sure how I'll do it. The whole tattoo is a symbolic reference to my ideas about life and death, and I think it will incorporate seamlessly.

Yeah I know exactly what I want for my tattoos, but I can't draw very well. I drew out part of one, but I'm just gonna have to meet up with someone really good and explain exactly what I want to them. I'll bring examples, so it should work pretty well. I'm getting the outsides of both legs done. My right leg will be about my feelings on life and death, and my left leg will be about the mutable nature of reality.

Whew! Sorry about the rambling, I just get excited.

"One going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts."

Of course, leave it to George Bernard Shaw to come up with this twist:

Day 2 of heady proverbs, expressions, concepts, and comments.

"The Aneristic Principle is that of ORDER, the Eristic Principle is that of DISORDER. On the surface, the Universe seems (to the ignorant) to be ordered; this is the ANERISTIC ILLUSION. Actually, what order is "there" is imposed on primal chaos in the same sense that a person's name is draped over his actual self. It...

I'm not sure how long this will last, but I think I will dedicate this week's journal entries to proverbial sayings (definitely with no intentions of making you wretch).

She who overcomes others is strong; she who overcomes herself is mighty.
-Taoism

Difficult to conquer is one's self. But when that is conquered, everything is conquered.

Don't worry, you won't bore me. I love philosophy and religious discourse. Here are some gems of wisdom from less acknowledged sources:

"Never think you've seen the last of anything."
-Eudora Welty

"Never do anything yourself that others can do for you."
-Agatha Christie

"Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the tests first."
-Patsy Cline

"When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So that the hell, leap." -Cynthia Heimel

And one that I am feeling quite personally these days: "The trouble with some women is they get all excited over nothing ... and then they marry him." -Cher

P.S. I never heard of Satina Saturnina before. I'll have to check them out.

I've heard that Ottawa is very dull. It's the capital, what can you expect? Can't you go to Toronto or Montreal to party?

Cheers!

When it comes to the green, I was pretty damn chronic over the last 15 years - morning to night. Unfortunately, and yet fortunately, due to some surgery for a hernia in February, I finally let the addiction go (at least the chronic usage thereof). One of the bonuses that I had long looked forward to, was the return of clear and remembered dreaming. The...

I don't have any gram on the vinyl. Wish I did but I've never been able to find some. I have some Emmylou records I stole from my dad.
When my stomach acts up I don't get much sleep so I haven't had any dreams as of late.
I just noticed Candide on your book list. It's a big fav at my place too. We even named the cat Candide.
Are you in Montreal? My friend goes to McGil and it sounds like such a great city.

As if it isn't hard enough keeping a journal for oneself, now SG wants one kept for multiple viewers. Yeeesh. For that matter, if you have friends that are actually GOOD writers, it always leaves one thinking their own wrtiting is just a tad barren. Ah well, in an effort to keep up with the Jones', here goes...
