Just found out a guy I know died. I am not sure of the circumstances. We weren't even friends, really. I had not seen him for either 6 or 7 years, but I can still feel the affect. I am friends with his brother, and really only a second or third string friend, but not sure if I can imagine his pain. . But Nick, who died was around a lot, like 10 years ago in the same social group as me. He was a good kid, funny and impetuous as hell.

Unfortunately he also had a drinking problem, and I would guess other demons the drinking problem was meant to drown out. He had lost his wife, his job, been to prison for multiple DUI, I think one where he injured someone. After prison he was occasionally homeless, had been stabbed by other drifters, but survived. He had really fallen out of my orbit, as I only heard rumors of him when I would occasionally see his brother. I can't say no one saw it coming, and I don't even know if his death was even related to his problems, or not, but I would guess it did, whether by his own hand or not. It's strange to me that alcohol can just be a part of our lives and culture for most of us, and such a source of true misery for others.

As a friend of mine put it, he was a good kid, and something broke in him none of us could fix. Now he is dead at 30. Whatever lies for us beyond, whether a true after life paradise or just a restful oblivion, I hope he has the peace he couldn't find in life

It's always sad and upsetting when someone we know dies. Whether it's someone we love or like I said just someone we know. In he last few years I had 2 people who I was casual friends with (but hadn't spent time with or talked to in a few years but would say hi in passing or hear about from mutual friends) pass away. Both were sudden and they fortunately did not have a serious addicton like this person you know. So I'm very sorry to hear that.

I was joking about the whole reading my blogs thing. I assume you all have lives outside of SG. If nothing else I'm glad if my boobs cheered you up if only a little bit.

Take care.

i had a similar experience a couple weeks ago, a (not very close) friend's twin sister was murdered. i'm sorry you have to go through it as well. as Raynne said so well, it's difficult when someone who has touched our lives dies, no matter how tangential they were in our everyday life.

as for my own personal demon, i agree wholeheartedly. i only wish i could be present to enjoy said punishment.
