What were the skies like when you were young?
They went on forever and they. . .
When I. . .
We lived in Arizona and the skies always had little fluffy clouds and err.. they were long and clear and there were lots of stars, at night.
And errr when it rained it would all turn. . .
It. . .
They were beautiful.
The most beautiful skies as a matter of fact.
The sunsets were purple and red and yellow and were on fire and the clouds would catch the colors everywhere.
Thats. . .
Its neat because I used to look at them all the time when I was little.
You don't see that.

You might still see them in the desert.

OMG OMG OMG, that is the second best song I ever had sex too (or, maybe the third, or the fourth, something like that). First time I ever heard it too. It had just come out. A boy I had liked since jr. highschool and hadn't seen in a looooooong time, saying hi to me in a black bedroom with a strobelight, and then bam! That song and all the rest. I hear he models for diesel jeans now. Sigh. Hahaha.

Then, I was on a train for 4 days, riding through the desert, alone a few years later, and I had four tapes with me only for my walkman. That tape was one of them (the other three were Dirt by Alice In Chains, and Check Your Head by the Beastie Boys, and Peter Gabriel's Passion, the soundtrack to the Last Temptation of Christ). When that song came on, I was looking at the sky, and the buttes, I think I was in the tail-end of the Red Canyons in S. Colorado, where it looks like Mars, and the sun was going down. It was so perfect as the stars peeped through the sheet of night at me, born from this incredible mardi gras coloured sunset. It was so perfect that I felt sort of transcended into the kind of altered state usually reserved for entheogenic drug use, you know? I had an "experience"... for lack of a better word. The song makes me shudder. The words make me shudder, the way her voice speaks them, because I understand, what purple and red and yellow are on fire, and I understand why that is important, why it's not just a metaphor, but a truth about life.
Heady stuff, Grendel.
Thanks for bringing me some memories.
