Luggage. Heaven or Hell in the hereafter will be luggage or the lack of it. The ones who recognised that love is enough and that possesions are borrowed pastimes, will float free through the exit sign their arms ready to hug their friends, their toothbrush in their pocket. The ones who stayed up late gathering and gathering like demented bees, wil find that you can take it with you. The joke is that you have to carry it yourself.
-Jeanette Winterson

It has been getting down to about 25 degrees at night and I've been sleeping with the window open and one blanket. It's my way of trying to increase my metabolism and acclimate myself to the cold after 18 straight months of summer. I figure if I spend most of the night curled up into a small ball in the middle of the bed shivering uncontrolably, I'll start burning fuel faster and more effeciently in order to keep warm. In my mind I know it's all BS and that I'll probably just make myself sick, but in my heart it just feels right.

Plus being kept on the verge of wakefullness all night makes for some very funky funky dreams.

Cut a hole in the ice and I'll happily jump in at 6 in the morning. It's so cold it burns.

Grendel = Polar Bear.

Hmmm, our Army manuals regarding this mentions progressively vigorous exercise in new climates to become acclimated. Small unit leaders should inspect their soldier's feet often for signs of cold injury. Dehydration is common in cold weather. Leaders should ensure proper hydration by observing urination -it should remain clear to light yellow. All meals should be eaten.

As for sleeping in the cold with few blankets.... I think the North Koreans did that to break their POWs!
