I just recently sent out two messages with the general question of friends in mind, so I felt like asking these in my journal.

When you talk to people on the internet or in real life do you hold things back from them?

If so, why?

And does the internet have anything to do with the previous question?

I suppose I do this more on the internet than in real life, but I'd like to believe that when I talk to someone I'd really like for them to know who I am and try my damndest to let the real me shine through.

I've also been known to let a lie slip through now and again, but they're usually pretty stupid and revolve around my fear of people not liking me, which is a particularly strong one for me since I'm rather shy.

Anyways, I find this habit rather odd, especialy since I do it myself.

I have to reiterate a comment I just posted and ask, If people don't like you for who you are then why bother being their friends?

Damnit, you're probably right about the timestamp thing. . . but i'm going to continue beleiving that there's a timewarp in SG that i've tapped into and am currently plummeting through space-time.

To answer your question:

To some extent yes, in both situations. Which seems odd when i think about it, because i usually don't hold anything back. I'm blunt, crass, brutally honest (almost to a fault sometimes), obnoxious, don't care what people think of me, and i don't hold anything back. . . .

Unless i see some sort of machiavellian advantage in holding something back. <shifting eyes>

Another reason is because i don't want to give it all up at once. The comment i get the most from people who have known me for a really long time is, "Damnit. . .every time i think i figured out your insanity, you go and do something like this and i'm back to square-1 trying to figure you out."

If i don't hold anything back, there's nothing new for people later on.
