I delivered the proof book of my shots from the hospital to the baby's mother today. The family itself is in pretty rough shape money wise... They have the baby's parents, their other child, mom of the guy, sister of the guy and a couple other folks living in the house and it's a small house.
I told them to take their time selecting the pictures they want, then when they decide I'll re-edit and print the ones they choose for a small album I'll put together.
It's the least I can do....
Seeing their home reminds me of all the folks here in Flint who are struggling to just barely get by. I think I've got it rough having an MA in Counseling and can't get another job in my field (three years ago, I lost my mental health job after 14 years there), but at least I'm working 40 hours a week at something! And I'm hoping my photography gets me somewhere better than being a retail-Ho until I'm dead!
Back in the late 70's it was "will the last person out of Flint turn out the lights"... Those days are back again!
