I love the rain. Theres just been way too much of it lately. It has been raining for a good part of nearly every day for over three weeks now. Its beginning to adversely affect me, along with virtually everyone and everything else in this region. Friday is forecast to be warm and sunny Im keeping my fingers crossed.
My friends MacTalla Mor were invited back this past weekend to play at the 40th annual Clearwater Festival - the 2009 Great Hudson River Revival. I was thrilled to go along as an honorary member of the band. It was a wonderful two days, filled with awesome music and performers, arts, activism, superb food (and beer) good times and great friends. Rain and wind, unfortunately, played a major part as well.
The weather on Saturday was awful and attendance suffered greatly. At several times during the day it appeared that there were more performers, vendors, staff and volunteers onsite then there were actual festival attendees. Sunday was better in every way, but attendance was still lower than hoped for or expected. The sun actually appeared only twice during the day. At 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon Pete Seeger strode onstage, joined by several other well known folk artists. The wind ceased, the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly for the entire length of his set. It was an awe inspiring and powerful seventy five minutes as an appreciate audience and seemingly nature itself paid tribute to the ninety year old legend. Ive seen him before and I hope to applaud him again, but this was the time that I will always cherish and remember.
I wish I had more photos to share. We took dozens. My friend unfortunately lost her camera that we used for most of the weekend. Several of us had it in our possession at one time or another were still hoping it will turn up in someones pocket or backpack. Heres one photo that did survive taken from very far away during the waning hours of the afternoon - the iconic Hudson River sloop Clearwater sails majestically past the festival that so proudly bears her name.
