Well, I had my glass of Guinness, now it's time to watch Elegy, the Penelope Cruz, Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kingsley DVD that came out today. First though, I'd like to take a moment to respond to the question from wsoxfan about my hometown.

Sea Cliff is a lovely little one square mile village in the Town of Oyster Bay, in Nassau County, on Long Island (New York). It's the place where I spent most of my formative years. It was known as a haven for artists of all sorts. There were beautiful tree-lined streets and the surrounding towns were filled with farms, where one could find horses, goats (I love goats), ducks and cows. It was a wonderful place to be a kid.

I don't live there any more. I left when I was 18 and never returned. I'm pretty sure that no matter how fabulous it may now be, it's not as I remembered. I'd rather not know for certain.

I reside now in the Town of Dover, in Dutchess County, NY. I rent a tiny hovel.... umm... cottage. There are lots of farms around here with vegetables, horses, goats (I still love goats), cows, buffalo and alpaca. There are ducks in the river and all sorts of wildlife in the woods. Dogs and coyotes howl back and forth at each other. There are black bear around. There was a bald eagle in the yard last week. You pretty much can't drive home late at night without seeing at least one deer by the road and often in it. Life in the fast lane, it's not. I like it.

The other great thing about living here is that NYC is only 90 miles away. I go in with friends a couple times a month and I can take the train as well.

I'll post some photos one of these days.

wsoxfan:
Sounds like a beautiful place to grow up. As an adult, I'd be too bored to live where you're at now. I've always loved the excitement and variety of NYC. My late wife and I did used to love the restaurants and Broadway shows. Even when money was tight, we would try to plan things like that, although not as often. The kids loved going into the city with us when they were little. We used to go to museums, stores or just walk around.

Annette and I also used to attend concerts at Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall. One of my fondest memories is when I took her to MSG years ago to see Teddy Pendergrass and Stephanie Mills. Teddy was my favorite singer at the time. Annette didn't feel strongly either way about him. After seeing him perform live, she formed an entirely new opinon of him. He became one of her favorites too. We also made it a point to go to a Kenny G concert whenever he performed in the area, usually once a year. That was like a ritual for us.

If you're so inclined, I'd love to meet up in the city some time, perhaps when I'm more able to afford a day or night out. Perhaps something to consider.
