I'm socially Liberal and fiscally Conservative. Used to be known as "Libertarian", before the nutbags took over that little party. But these days it's either "Liberal" Republican or "Conservative" Democrat, or whatever moniker CNN decides to plaster us with that day.
But I never ceased to be amazed by the amount of lip service the "Right" pays to religion over the "Left".
Lets face it....everyone on the planet has a religious viewpoint. Be you Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, Agnostic or Atheist....you've got a viewpoint. Whats funny though, is up until now, here in America, the "left" has played down their religious views to cater to their base, and the "right" has played them up. Political Democrats act like they rarely go to religious services, except for high holidays and when their grandmother guilted them into it through a devotion to the family beliefs, and Political Republicans act like they built the church with their own two bare hands, in the midst of a blizzard, using only duct tape, dental floss and elbow grease.
Thats why this whole Pentecostal Palin thing in the news makes me giggle. Its NEWS that she's religious right? Ummm...shes a Republican right? Isnt that like saying its news that she has toes? "This just in VP Hopeful Palin has a pinkie toe! And its tiny!".....ummm who gives a fuck? Wake me when we get to her position on the actual issues...
...oh wait...thats the problem right? We dont really KNOW her position do we?
So instead we have zealots on tv explaining the finer points of "faith healing" and "speaking in tongues".
Man o man I love politics!!
