Ahhhh blog time.....again.
Many folks who read this (or one of my nine-million other blogs) may wonder why I've yet to comment on the whole election process that's going on. The truth is, I'm still watching from afar....and slightly at odds with myself.
To be honest, I've been a McCain fan for a long time....but liked him much more 10 years ago as opposed to now. I find it funny that the media pundits and talking heads like to still refer to him as a "Maverick" politician, when over the past few years he's been less maverick and more old boy network....its like he sold out a bit. If this was 10 years ago, he'd have my vote. Straight up no questions asked. I liked that he made his own way in Washington and spent a good deal of his time telling the rest of those airheads to piss up a flagpole. But now? Nowadays he's a bad carbon copy of himself, faded, and only showing bits of what the original used to be.
I like Obama. A lot. Read both of his books, and after reading his memoir, was shocked at how similar our upbringings were. Shocked at how similar our values are. I expected to hate him, because although I don't subscribe to either party, I consider myself socially liberal...but fiscally conservative. I don't like the idea of throwing money at a problem and hoping it goes away. But, I liked Obama in spite of myself....and rooted for him to beat Hillary (whom I despise). But his lack of experience worries me. This man has the chance to be Commander-In-Chief, and I have too many friends and family members in the armed forces to take that little job interview lightly. So although we have some differences of opinion on health care, and he is a bit green...I like the man.
Lets keep in mind that Hillary didn't lose because she was a woman, despite what people might think. She lost because outside of certain circles, she's just not very well liked. Lets be honest, loads of people blamed her loss on "America not being ready for a woman President"....I think that's a load of BS. I think America is ready for a woman to be President....just not THAT woman.
I think McCain shot himself in the ass with his VP pick though. I mean, honestly, do we really want someone who was Governor of a state with a population smaller than that of Austin, TX to be a heartbeat away from having to make all the decisions? Nevermind the fact that it was such a piece of political stageplay as to almost be disgusting. Does McCain truly think because his VP is a woman, we'll overlook he qualifications?
So all-in-all, personally, its up in the air with me. Obama has a slight lead, especially with his pick of Biden to shore up the experience issue....but yet and still the jury is still out.
This ought to prove interesting at the very least.
