I really need some advice. I'm getting some very nasty phone calls from collection agencies & it's really stressing me out. I did some math today & I have 14 maxxed out credit cards equalling over $25,000 in debt. I know that is completely monstrous & that I was very irresponsible. I'm really not sure what I was thinking, but I know I have got to take some action. I want to file for bankruptcy, but obviously I can't afford a lawyer. I know that a person can file pro se, but I tried to fill out the paperwork & can't understand hardly any of it. I'm at my wit's end about this now. The only income I have is my $200 a month for child support (of which there isn't enough left over to make a difference on my debt). Gabe's checks barely cover our utilities & groceries, so he's unable to help out either. All of our bills get paid except my credit cards & store accounts. I just don't know what to do! Please offer any advice you can. Thanks.

first you may want to check the state bankrutpcy laws since they very from state to state.i have a friend in NC.who got help filling out his forms from by finding a lawyer who did pro-bono work by looking on line.but i do beleave cunningquist is correct that the federal fees must be paid up front.also i'm sure if you can find a borders or barnes and nobels you can find a book on the forms to help ya,or go to the library.there may also be publicly funded lawyers to handle your needs in or around a large city near you, check bermingham directory..good luck.
