Fuck politicians- I wrote this to the Choronicle in response to somthign I read on CNN.

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on Wednesday, while
defending the political motivations behind a privately
sponsored trip to Russia said,

"No member can be responsible for going into the
bowels of researching what this organization, how it
gets its money or how it's funded," he said. "The
rules say if it's a legitimate organization that funds
the trip and it's reported, it's legal."

Politicians, regardless of position or importance have
a responsibility to determine the intentions of
donors. By nature, political donations are made
either to support persons who share similar beliefs or
to bring attention to a cause. By accepting private
donations to fund a trip to Russia, Tom DeLay had a
responsibility to fully determine the intentions of
his donors. It would be acceptable for DeLay to admit
that an organization made a significant donation in an
effort to solicit is attention to their cause. It is
his responsibility however, to research this
sponsoring organization and understand its intentions.
Money talks, however I expect our politicians to give
due diligence before they listen.
