Fleeing suspect picks the wrong place to hide
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 3:14 PM EST
The Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP) A suspect who ran away from a traffic stop on Wednesday chose the wrong place to hide when he slipped under a parked moving truck and then was run over when the driver pulled away. The Arizona Department of Public Safety said an officer stopped a 26-year-old man in west Phoenix just before 7 a.m. after he ran a red light. The man gave the officer his license, then ran away and disappeared behind a convenience store.

As the officer searched for him, the moving truck driver got back in his truck and started to drive away, running over the suspect. The officer stopped the truck and called help for his suspect, who complained of back pain.

The man had a suspended driver license and warrants for DUI and leaving an accident scene. He'll be booked into jail after treatment.

Man accused of selling daughter for cash, beer
Monday, January 12, 2009 4:20 PM EST
The Associated Press

GREENFIELD, Calif. (AP) Police have arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly arranging to sell his 14-year-old daughter into marriage in exchange for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.

Police said they only learned of the deal after the 36-year-old man went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised. The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking.

Officers also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of statutory rape. Investigators believe the girl went willingly with the man, but she's under California's legal age of consent and can't legally marry.

Police say arranged marriages involving underage girls have become a problem in this small Central Coast farming community.

Mexican warlock predicts US troops on border
Saturday, January 3, 2009 3:42 PM EST
The Associated Press

MEXICO CITY (AP) Mexico's self-proclaimed "Grand Warlock" says the United States will pull troops out of Iraq in 2009 and send them to the border with Mexico in an attempt to expand its territory.

The prediction from Antonio Vazquez comes with a word of warning though: his record of projecting the future is spotty at best.

Vazquez has been making predictions since 1980 on events ranging from international events to the private lives of celebrities, based on his reading of tarot cards.

Vazquez erroneously predicted last year that oil prices would be stable and that Cuba's Fidel Castro and singer Britney Spears would die. This year, he says Spears will continue to triumph.

who knew there are Warlocks in Mexico !?
