GREEN LANTERN
I knew this was gonna be a disappointment, but I felt obligated to see it.
Ive never been a big Green Lantern fan, but hes a solid part of the DC Comics Universe, and so, I had to check it out.

I initially wasnt happy that Ryan Reynolds was playing Hal Jordan, whos always been portrayed in the comics as a rather serious, no nonsense fellow. Reynolds is more at ease playing the sarcastic smart ass, something he does very well. Well here, they made Jordan into a sarcastic smart ass. Oh well. Despite that, he does well in the role, a pilot suddenly thrust into an important role in an intergalactic security patrol. I wont tell you how that happens because I dont do spoilers. You know, even if the commercials show exactly how and why he finds himself in this new role.

Blake Lively blew me away with her performance in Ben Afflecks THE TOWN, and while here her character, and therefore her performance, seem much less substantial, she was still very good.
Mark Strong has made a career out of being stand out bad guys, most recently in KICK ASS, but here he plays devoted Green Lantern Sinestro, he of the wicked pointy ears and even more wicked widows peak. He was excellent, and should Green Lantern succeed enough to get a sequel, methinks well be seeing more of Sinestro.

Peter Sarsgaard plays Hector Hammond, and really, I have know idea who that is in the comic book world. Here anyway, hes a genius doctor scientist type. Sarsgaards always good, if kinda creepy, and here is no exception.

At no point in this flick did I see Gnort.
If you know what Im talking about, youre good people.

My big problem with Green Lantern, aside from the fact that its very cosmic and spacy(aliens, and space ships aint my thing), and despite the fact that the film is awash in unrelenting neon green, is the villain. Again, dont wanna give anything away, but the villain is boring, and not very effectively executed.
But Green Lantern is a good rental, and there are worse ways to kill two hours. Also, if you see it theatrically, sit thru the credits. *wink wink*
