so, so tired.
so i drove up from roxy's today. it took me 8 hours, nonstop except for a few coffee and pee stops, averaging 80 mph.
i had a 45 minute break at home before i had to leave to drive back to school - another 4 hours
i was driving 3 people as well as myself, and my car is still all fucked up from getting hit by the semi.
it shudders if you turn the wheel to the left
and screeches if you turn the wheel to the right
it's going into the shop tomorrow.
i got about 2 hours into the drive
and all of a sudden i rounded a curve
and there was an suv flipped on it's back
it was taking up the whole left lane
the bumper was in the right lane
glass was all over the road
along with random engine parts.
the engine was quietly burning
it had probably happened 30 seconds before i got there
no one was there yet.
so i screeched to a halt
i dialed 911 on my cell
and as i was talking to the cops on the phone
i ran over to the people
there was still one girl in the car
trying to turn off the engine
and a boy trying to help her - he had been in the car too.
i yelled at her to just forget it - the car was on fire, don't' bother trying to turn it off
"are you hurt?"
"i'm an emt"
"and a firefighter"
(yes i am)
"i need you guys to come away from the car"
"are you hurt?"
"don't worry about the car"
"just come with me"
"dont' worry"
they weren't hurt
the girl had neck and back pain but that was it.
they were both 20.
thank god they were wearing their belts
the suv was on its back
the tires were still spinning
so for the next 15 minutes
i had to control traffic
order other moterists around
i was the only one who had had any training in anything
and attend to the kids
try to calm them down
finally the fire engine came
and then another 5 minutes later the ambulance came
15 minutes of being the only person who knew anything to do in that sort of situation.
running everywhere.
but it turned out ok.
the kids were fine
the fire put itself out
no one else got hurt
even though the car was taking up the whole lane.
in the middle of a curve
on a highway
where people were averaging 70mph
at 8pm in the darkness.
and then another 2 hours of driving
and i'm finally home.
and i'm fucking going to sleep.
NOW.

I'm thinking of a Greg Brady jack-o-lantern, but I can't find a decent picture to send! I'll settle for a photo of you in a pile of leaves.
