I can't imagine how some of our police, fire and military people see what they do and not just explode inside. Burnt animals and burnt bodies, injured children and dead friends. Bad week in our neck of the woods and yet not near as bad as some will have. It is very hard to talk about it sometimes and you find yourself driving home in the dark with tears running down your face and no explanation. Take time to gather yourself before you go in the house. Hot shower, bourbon on the rocks and sleep in the guest bedroom by yourself in case your pager goes off tonight. Kids coming in after they should be in bed to give you a hug and it helps. "Love you dad" is about the greatest thing you ever heard. Turn off the light, down the last of the bourbon, and close your eyes hoping for a nice dream.
