I finished my first day of work at the new job today. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be and, all said and done, I have a reasonable amount of space to work. My cubically-contained mind continues to wish there were some physical barriers defining my space but the people seem cool and that is the most important thing to me.

I...

So, I just finished reading the last of the "Sword of Truth" series. More than a bit epic, for me. Back in the day I picked books exclusively based on size. "Wizard's First Rule" was a very thick book so it met my prerequisites. I enjoyed the story; it had dragons and magic and characters I cared about.

The second book was likewise quite delightful...

Well it will most likely end up being a series of marathons. I don't think we could possibly fit all those movies in one day.

hahah my pleasure biggrin

So then. New years. Not a bad party... great drinks at good prices and a great bunch of people. Loved the party even though I am still uncomfortable with what it represents...

which led to me being awake at 5:30 am today. Generally I've been able to say things have gotten better each year... this year ended on such a down note I really wasn't...

fair enough.

and that does suck.

but I'm sure you'll find something soon enough.

think of it more as a good change for a fresh/new start.

haha thanks, I hope it goes well too. No worries, pretty much everyone I talked to has the same dazed feeling. The feeling at the office is 'cautious optimism'.

I really, really dislike interviews. I guess the point is to come out with a clear understanding of where you sit and what you have that you can offer the company. In that way I go into them understanding that I'm probably going to come out at least a bit shaken.

It never seems to stop sucking though. I swear the biggest reason I wish...

I get bored easily. And when bored, I sometimes number-crunch. Through this I found out the equally amusing facts that 2000 was a day before the longest night of the year, and 3000 is the day before my 34th birthday. For a depressing factoid, I find that neat.

Yep. smile There's a different actress playing Willow. I'm glad she was replaced.

So, we all get spam. Penny stocks and Viagra being the most common in my inbox and this was at the bottom of an otherwise regular penny stock ad.

Submitted for your wtf:

I showed him all the documentation, all the emails, and the reports that I've written. For example, working at the FDA, is their pay somehow based on how many drugs they approve?...

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. The day started off well... a respectible pre-concert rehearsal with a perk of a lunchtime Orange Julius. After arriving home the eve was tarnished slightly by a less respectible 320 dollar bill for replacing a water pump in my car (which currently leaks all the coolant it has in under one work day). I went...

Interesting.

Family is a weird thing. In the past week I heard two things that really kinda made me scratch my head. First was a friend's mother who was moved to tears at a daughter's surprise visit. The other is a fellow who, despite being an adult would not date someone that don't get okay'd by the parents.

I just... can't see myself in either...

Things I've learned since posting:

1-I can, in fact, actually see myself moving to the states. It isn't on the top of my list but if push came to shove I would say yes to adventure. Good to know, methinks, even if a move (should it occur) ends up not being quite so drastic

2-I really don't like business. Being in a meeting for more...

So then. Things I have learned:

1-having friends at work is good. Bringing in friends from Dell is especially good. Basically any time one of my friends no longer has to work the nightmare that is shift work I'm happy.

2-I remain a devout choir boy. Life has already interceded... missed the first half of the first rehearsal as I was working late on a...

Hmm.

Long bit of time it has been. Went to Vegas (which was far more fun than I thought it would be so thumbs up to that), worked for 2 days and then went to Seattle for PAX.

It was a good trip albeit not as novel an experience as it was last year. I think that, should I go again next year, the driving...

I keep getting the "oh... I ignored the construction signs so I'm going to lane change into your driver's side door because I'm too big of a douchebag to wait for an opening in traffic" on top of the "I drive like a useless pussy".
