So the kids are all gone. Hasn't made much of a difference in my life yet as this has been one of the busiest weeekends in a while. Saturday was filled with 6am wakeups and driving to Innisfail after dropping off choir girls. In traditional "me" style I arrived promptly 45 minultes late for a kayak water polo competition at which I spent the majority of my day.

I've been kayaking in various capacities since grade 6 and have been competing in kayak water polo (again, in various capacities) since grade 10. As such it was quite saddening that my age/lack of practice is catching up. My team (nicely balanced with some other old-guard friends) made it to the finals, losing only one game. I however failed to roll 3 times which is quite out of character.

Especially since I *taught* the members of the club how to roll for about 3 years.

I guess I should just suck it up and join Edmonton's club... they're a different bunch but that's life. Innisfail had the casual/fun group and Edmonton had the hardcore team.

After that I went and watched my father's jazz concert. Much to my frustration up north here (having been unable to find a similar band in E-town) Red Deer has a jazz band which is quite awesome. Not professional grade to be sure but it still kicks ass that they have a group and get to play in a big band. I am envious. This envy was compounded by the fact the last time I saw them was because I was hired as a bass player for them as theirs couldn't make it.

My dad had a MAJOR solo (as in him and drums set up bridged and brought to a close the song) and I was most impressed. If I could be having that much fun at 50+ I will be a happy man.

The night came to a close with going to a party with my brother and his music friends from Red Deer. It has been a long time since I last was at a laid back, mellow party where nobody was playing video games or burning things. We did however discuss how the song list on Guitar Hero 1 seemed superior... I guess some thoughts are universal.
