Interesting.

Family is a weird thing. In the past week I heard two things that really kinda made me scratch my head. First was a friend's mother who was moved to tears at a daughter's surprise visit. The other is a fellow who, despite being an adult would not date someone that don't get okay'd by the parents.

I just... can't see myself in either...

You were a pretty damn awesome pirate, too.

Things I've learned since posting:

1-I can, in fact, actually see myself moving to the states. It isn't on the top of my list but if push came to shove I would say yes to adventure. Good to know, methinks, even if a move (should it occur) ends up not being quite so drastic

2-I really don't like business. Being in a meeting for more...

So then. Things I have learned:

1-having friends at work is good. Bringing in friends from Dell is especially good. Basically any time one of my friends no longer has to work the nightmare that is shift work I'm happy.

2-I remain a devout choir boy. Life has already interceded... missed the first half of the first rehearsal as I was working late on a...

Hmm.

Long bit of time it has been. Went to Vegas (which was far more fun than I thought it would be so thumbs up to that), worked for 2 days and then went to Seattle for PAX.

It was a good trip albeit not as novel an experience as it was last year. I think that, should I go again next year, the driving...

I keep getting the "oh... I ignored the construction signs so I'm going to lane change into your driver's side door because I'm too big of a douchebag to wait for an opening in traffic" on top of the "I drive like a useless pussy".

SO... leaving for vegas in a day and a half or so. I suppose this is when some people start getting excited...

Unfortunately I've always kinda had the opposite reaction. The closer to a vacation I get, the more backpedaling I want to do,. I always had to commit to a ski trip the day before because if my parents asked me in the morning...

So Kaleb spends his saturday making reservations.

Here I was, phoning Sheraton making what I thought was a simple request; change the name on my second room. 3 phone calls later I *hopefully* have a resolution that doesn't involve either a fifty dollar rate shift or a mystical drop in occupancy from 7 to four.

I am unimpressed.
rin:
where are you going?
freakpirate:
Hmm... that could be a plan.

I would love to make a post about my fun trip to Drayton last weekend. I didn't know how it would end up as not a lot of people seemed interested and there has been... weirdness between the groups from the north and the south at previous such events...

Fortunately it ended up being a great little trip and, with the exception of my stomach...

rin:
haha, okay, here is the recipe:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

(takes 20 min to prepare, 1h50 m to bake)
1 c fresh white bread crumbs
1/2c millk
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1lb/450g ground beef
the same amount of porl or veal
2tbsp ketchup
3tbsp chopped fresh dill
1tsp chopped fresh thyme leaves
1/2 c long grain white rice
salt + pepper
1lg cabbage, such as savoy, leaves separated and blanched

tomato sauce
-
2 tbsp olive oil
2 lg onions, thinly sliced
2 x 14oz/400g cans chopped tomatoes
2 c sieved tomatoes
1/4 c tomato catsup (weird, huh? earlier up it says 'ketchup' and here 'catsup'.)
grated rind and juice of a large lemon
2tbsp brown sugar
2/3 c raisins (this sounds so odd)

INSTRUCTIONS WOWOWOWOW
1.) combine bread crumbs + milk and set aside to soak. heat the oil in a pan and cook the onion and garlic for about 2 mins, until soft.

2.) place the beef, pork/veal in a bowl. mix in the catsup, herbs, rice, seasoning. add trhe bread crumbs and cooked onion and garlic.

3.) to make the tomato sauce, heat the oil and cook the onions for 3 mins until soft. stir in the tomatoes and the remaining ingredients andbring to a boil, then simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. set aside.

4.) spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the met mixture onto a cabbage leaf above the stem end. fold the stem end over the filling, then fold over the sides. roll up to enclose. repeat with the remaining leaves until the meat mixture is used up.

5.) spoon enough tomato sauce to cover the bottom of a large casserole dish. arrange the filled cabbage rolls, seam side down, in the casserole dish. spoon the remaining sauce over the rolls to over. add a little water if necessary. cover tightly and bake in a preheated oven 325f/160c for about 1.5 h basting once or twice.

6.) transfer the cabbage rolls to a warmed serving plate and keep warm. heat the sauce to thicken, if necessary, then prour over the rolls and serve.

i haven't made it so i can't vouch for its yumness, but i hope it turns out awesome for you.

So I decided I was going to the family cottage this weekend. For those unaware, this is in northern sask and so is an eight hour drive. generally it goes fairly smoothly... this time, notsomuch.

Parents phone me friday morning to tell me they couldn't leave until sat so I was to make sure I had my key. I did... I thought. Forward to Saturday...

Working after a trip? no fun. Working a 10 hour day after getting up at 6 after going to sleep at 1?

An interesting way to start the week which apparantly brings with it much tiredness. I do love a good random trip though so I call the experience a draw.

Work is getting tough. I'm working on something that none of us have a...

So then. Busiest Saturday in a long time is over and it was mostly a success. Started off with a trip to see new baby number one, went on to a delightful homecooked meal (as rare when I'm the chef as it has always been) followed by loosely office-based shenanigans.

My boss has an incredible house. It was an odd sensation... going into a house...

I most certainly do. I was going to ask if you wanted to borrow it. Just make sure it comes back in one piece as it is a rental and all.

Man... busy busy busy.

I love my job. I have written many many times about that but I'm still excited enough to repeat it.

I do not, however, love beer. I always think I do... but then I forget that beer when taken in excess leaves my stomach feeling most displeased for the next day. That said, it had been far too long since the...

The octopus princess is not the one in the picture. That one is a boy. I think the princess may have escaped, though. I think another octopus was eaten and she is now in hiding.
