Yesterday was misguided's birthday party, which was fabulous. I wasn't sure; it was rather late before I got there, but I was in time for cake
. Tetris was played, good conversation was had...
I find it ironic that, just prior to going to the party I placed a rather cynical post into another journal of mine. Clearly, a good party night like last...

I just read a most disturbing piece of news. I would contribute it to the news thread but I don't know if it has been mentioned yet.
As a student in computer science, this is the sort of thing I fear and hate. It goes against everything truly intelligent programmers believe in.

I find it difficult to belive that this patent would stand in court.
The only distinguishing feature of 'their' concept is simply hierarchy.
If there is ANYTHING in human society that is public domain, it is the concept of organizing data into a hierarchy.
Every repository of data in the world is organized this way, from the Yellow Pages to my collection of porn downloads.
This kind of thing has happened before, and someone will simply challenge it. I suspect it constitutes some sort of negotiating strategy between apple and creative, more than anything else.

WTF! That's shit. They patented this?! Fucking hell...that's out of control.
If this shit is passed...what does that say about the proposal of patenting cursors...scrollbars...and :o typing?!

Among many of my computer friends Ubuntu has been getting a lot of praise. I wasn't that impressed when it wouldn't install on my laptop, but because I'm so forgiving I tried installing it on my desktop.
Big mistake, apparantly. I guess you can only write a boot sector so many times or something, because I can no longer run Windows off...

Ubuntu is voodoo. Sure, it's built of Debian...but you know what? The trouble it's given me, makes it uncomparable to Debian.
Wow. I signed on today to find out that my friend from Australia has signed on here. Isn't that fabulous? I love it when friends I haven't talked to in a while show up.
Speaking of which, I finally met the fabulous Oryx which was an unexpected surprise, as well as the fabulous aya and... some fellows who may or may not have been on...

second day of Orientation is today. So far most of my group has stayed around, which is fabulous. I like leading around new enthusiastic people; it makes up for me being not-that-excitable most of the time.
Maybe they just enjoy following a guy with some mean-looking hickeys? I leave that to the scholars to decide.

Hickeys?! Sounds like you've been having more fun than you've been letting on. Or had a run in with a possessed vacuum cleaner.
Apparantly, not raining for 20 minutes is enough time for the volleyball courts to dry out. I disagree. I guess today will be the first day I play beach volleyball in bluejeans and a sweater.

Well if Tatu goes for full on hardcore action... I'll consider not hating them completely. But until then...
Go see anything put on by Die Nasty. They are fucking hilarious.

I had all sorts of Fringe recommendations... but I'm far, far too late. Curse my prolonged absence. Soul Mates was, however, fantastic. David Belke is my idol.
If only I could do everything I want to at once.
Too bad time doesn't work that way.

Yeah... I'd apologize for that but you know... I don't care.

Everybody go and check out Bracket's set today. Those of you who know me already know why.
For those that don't... me and Jager have a special relationship. Now I know I'm not the only one. Of course... her way of showing her jager love is far more attractive than mine

From my many friends/family who have contemplated what you contemplate, I've learned this: a BA in psychology is only really useful if you then go for a masters. Or transfer into med school, but I don't actually know anyone who did that.

Life's fun, isn't it? I am near constantly reminded of this during the summer when, despite having far more free time, I find myself hard pressed to do everything there is to do. Movies, plays, concerts, picnics, camping, kayaking... far much to do for the few months I have to do them in.
It makes me feel especially bad on days like this where...

Well, damn. I really didn't think this weekend was going to be good... for some reason I was quite afraid it would end up a "hey, I don't know you... *SHUN*" kinda event.

Ever have the urge to write tons of bad poetry? I suspect I've just been reading too much Sinfest comics, but for some reason I feel really... write-y. This is interesting, as I think there were 4 years between the last two times I said that; this time only about 2 months.
