I have to post this article and come out as *shock horror* a Hillary supporter. No, I will not vote for McCain in the election, no I didn't vote for Hillary just because she is a women, yes I want what is best for our country, and yes I do like Obama. (Oh, I should also mention that I'm not a racist because for some reason people tend to pull that card as soon as I support a white female rather than a black male).

I know this won't change a thing, I know Obama will be the candidate and I will happily support him in his endeavors. I would never support McCain and every Hillary supporter I know would not do something as ridiculous as jump parties right now. I just cannot sit by and listen to every anti-Hillary comment that is hurled in the media and in conversation, and when I don't laugh I'm STILL considered an "up-tight bitch". What happened to being in a post-feminism age, one where we don't need feminism, the one I hear so many women my age talk about but I fail to see. Where is that? Regardless of how much I research the topic, how much I know about the race, because I did not vote for Obama I've been labeled and dismissed as ignorant of the topics REALLY at hand. I've let my "feminist ways" get the better of me. Fuck this. It's disgusting. It is sexism and it's blatant.

Those screaming the loudest seem to be the sexists, or at least let the sexism get the better of them. It's like this campaign has given people the little bit of permission that they think they need to not be careful about what they say and just let the insult fly.
I don' t think that we need a feminist movement again, in the context of the 1970's movement. But, constant vigilance is neccessary so that we can have another couple of generations of improvement.
Then again, I'm much less worried about the obvious assholes than I am about the two faced "nice" people who think that they are really treating the opposite gender equally. The subtle stuff is more difficult to root out.

Unfortunately, there is alot of resentment left over from Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign, in which Hillary started out with a very strong professional career woman image, so middle america felt threatened (as if she was putting down stay at home mothers or something, when she wasn't). Political grudges last a long time and lots of people were waiting to just bash her on a grand scale.

She'll be around for a long time, so I wouldn't worry about the nay sayers. There is always someone trying to knock you off of the top.
